The story of Jezreel
The Valley of Jezreel is the great plain cutting across northern Israel, and the city stood at its edge; Ahab and Jezebel had a palace there, and Jehu's massacre of Ahab's house happened at Jezreel. Hosea is told to name his first son Jezreel because God will avenge that blood — and then, in the same book, the name is turned around into an image of God sowing his people back into the land. As a given name it is rare in English and rather more used in Spanish-speaking evangelical communities and in the Philippines; its American record is recent, with a peak in 2007.
Meaning
God sows
From Hebrew Yizrəʿeʾl, from zāraʿ, to sow, and ʾēl, God — God sows or God will scatter. The reading is settled, and the double sense of sowing and scattering is used deliberately in Hosea, where the name is both a threat and, later, a promise of replanting.

The Tecumseh test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jezreel's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tecumseh climbed just as high around 1916, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tecumseh's path sketches the road Jezreel is walking now.
Jezreel sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
