The story of Vinson
Vincent of Saragossa, martyred in 304, was among the most venerated Spanish saints and made the name ordinary across Catholic Europe; Vincent de Paul and Vincent Ferrer followed. The surname Vinson formed on it in England and traveled to America, thickest in the South. Fred Vinson was Chief Justice of the United States from 1946 to 1953, and Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica, is named for a Georgia congressman. Its use as a given name peaked in 1969, in the general surname-name wave, and the name is also used in African American families.

The Arland test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Vinson's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Arland climbed just as high around 1935, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Arland's path sketches the road Vinson is walking now.
Vinson sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
