Our story of Jevin
Kevin's American career explains most of this name. Caoimhin was an Irish saint's name — Kevin of Glendalough, a sixth-century hermit — and it was almost unused outside Ireland until the twentieth century. Then it moved: American use rose from nothing in the 1920s to the top twenty by 1960, and for thirty years it was one of the most common boys' names in the country. A name that common generates neighbors. Devin rose behind it, then Nevin, then the invented members — Jevin, Trevin, Levin. Each one borrows the shape and the familiarity without the ancestry, and each is placed correctly by any listener within a fraction of a second, because the ear recognizes the family before it recognizes the name. That instant placement is what a rhyme family is for, and it is why building inside one is a more conservative choice than it looks.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No documented source. The rhyme family it belongs to has genuine members: Kevin descends from Irish Caoimhin, from caomh, 'gentle, kind, beloved', and Nevin from Naomhan, from naomh, 'holy'. Devin is from an Irish surname. Jevin has no such ancestor — it is the same rhyme with a different initial, and the Je- front carries no lexical content. That is an accurate description and more useful than any invented gloss.

The Kippy test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jevin's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kippy climbed just as high around 1955, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kippy's path sketches the road Jevin is walking now.
Jevin sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The pronunciation is unambiguous, which many modern coinages are not.
- The rhyme family places it correctly on first hearing.
- It is rare enough that a bearer is unlikely to share it.
- It is easily heard as Kevin or Devin, which are far more common.
- There is no documented meaning to give when asked.
- Jevin and Jevon are both in use and look like errors for each other.
