The story of Jermain
Latin germanus described a sibling by both parents, as against a half-sibling, and the word is built on germen, a shoot or sprout, so it means something like of the same stock. English kept it in the legal phrase cousin-german, a first cousin, and in the sense of germane, closely related to the matter at hand. The Romans separately called the tribes east of the Rhine Germani, a name they may have picked up from a Gaulish informant and whose meaning nobody has established; it is not connected to the sibling word except by accident. Saint Germain of Auxerre and Saint Germaine of Pibrac carried the personal name into French use, and it reached English-speaking America chiefly through French and Caribbean naming.

The Lindell test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jermain's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lindell climbed just as high around 1949, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lindell's path sketches the road Jermain is walking now.
Jermain sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
