The story of Jeri
The Earl of Surrey wrote a sonnet in the 1530s to a young woman of the Fitzgerald family, calling her Geraldine — and that coinage became a real name, one of the few in English with a documented author. It became genuinely popular in twentieth-century America, and its short form went onto certificates as Jerry, Gerry, Jeri and Geri. Jeri peaked in the mid-1960s.
