Itzia
Feminine
Itzia carries the letter cluster that modern Mexican naming uses to signal an indigenous origin. The tz of Itzel, Itzayana, Xitlali and Itzia is a real Mesoamerican sound, unfamiliar in Spanish and unmistakable on the page. Whether this particular name has a Mesoamerican source is a separate question. Its American peak is 2021, making it one of the newest names in this list.

Our story of Itzia
The tz cluster is doing something specific and worth naming. Spanish has no tz; it is not a Spanish sound and not a Spanish spelling, and a Spanish speaker meeting it knows immediately that the word came from somewhere else. That makes it an efficient signal. Nahuatl and the Mayan languages use it constantly — Itzcoatl, Itzamna, Tenochtitlan's own founding names — and by the late twentieth century Mexican families reaching for a name that was Mexican rather than Spanish had a ready-made marker to work with. The result is a family of names in which the marker is genuine and the words are not always: Itzel and Xochitl are real, Itzia and Itzayana are asserted. A parent choosing Itzia is making a legible and meaningful statement about identity, and that statement stands whether or not any dictionary contains the word. What does not stand is a translation nobody can source.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Not established. Itzia is commonly glossed as 'dew from heaven' or 'gift of the gods' and attributed variously to Purepecha, Nahuatl or Maya; the three attributions contradict each other and none can be traced to a dictionary of any of those languages. By contrast Itzel, in the same naming family, is genuinely Maya. The honest position is that Itzia is a modern Mexican name built on a recognizably indigenous sound whose source has not been demonstrated.

The Marlies test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Itzia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Marlies climbed just as high around 1963, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Marlies's path sketches the road Itzia is walking now.
Itzia sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
