From sindhu to Indy
The story of Indy
Sindhu meant simply a river; Persian said Hindu, Greek said Indos, and from that one word came India, Hindu, Sindh and the Indus itself. A 1981 film gave the short form Indy to an archaeologist. It appears in American records for both sexes in current use.
Meaning
of the Indus, of India
Through India or Indiana, from the Indus, from the Sanskrit sindhu, 'river' or 'ocean'. Persian turned the s to h, giving Hindu, and Greek dropped it, giving Indos. So Indus, Hindu, India and Sindh are all the same word. The chain is documented.

The Haley test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Indy's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Haley climbed just as high around 1993, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Haley's path sketches the road Indy is walking now.
Indy sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
