The story of Iann
Scottish Gaelic made John into Iain and Eoin, and the anglicized Ian spread out of Scotland in the twentieth century into Britain, the Commonwealth and the United States. Latin American families took it up in the last few decades as a short international-looking name, and Spanish and Portuguese spelling habits produced Iann and Yan alongside it. Breton, unconnectedly, has Yann and Iann for the same name, since Brittany has its own Celtic stock of names.
