Where it comes from

The story of Gizella

Gisela of Bavaria, sister of the Holy Roman Emperor Henry II, married Stephen, the first Christian king of Hungary, and became the country's first queen; together they founded churches, and her name passed into Hungarian as Gizella. After Stephen's death she was treated harshly by his successor, returned to Bavaria, and ended her life as abbess of a convent in Passau, where her grave is still visited. Hungarian immigrants carried Gizella to America.
