The story of Estevan
Stephen is stoned to death in Acts as the first Christian martyr, and early writers made much of a martyr whose name means a victor's crown. Spanish orthography cannot start a word with st-, so every such Latin word gained an e. Estevan appears in American records in current use.
Meaning
crown, garland
From the Greek stephanos, 'crown' or 'victor's wreath'. Spanish adds a prosthetic e before initial s-clusters, giving Esteban and Estevan from Stephanus — the same rule that makes escuela from schola. The Greek is documented.

The Lorin test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Estevan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lorin climbed just as high around 1913, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lorin's path sketches the road Estevan is walking now.
Estevan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
