The story of Erin
Ériu is a goddess in the medieval Irish material — one of three sisters who each asked that the island carry her name, and hers won. Her name is the country's. English took the inflected form Éirinn from phrases like go hÉirinn, to Ireland, and made a name of it. Erin appears in American records for men in real numbers in the 1970s before going almost entirely to women.
