The story of Emmagrace
The virtue names of the English Reformation were numerous and mostly short-lived: Faith, Hope, Charity, Mercy, Prudence, Temperance, Patience, Constance, Silence, Thankful and dozens more. Almost all of them faded. Grace is the exception — it has never gone fully out of use in four hundred years, and it has had three separate revivals. Its second life is as a compound element: from about 1995 American parents began attaching it to a first name as a middle-name-turned-part-of-the-name, and Emmagrace, Annagrace, Avagrace and Lilygrace all follow. The merged spelling is partly deliberate and partly administrative, since single-field forms join what parents wrote as two words.
Meaning
'whole, universal' joined to 'grace'
Emma is a Germanic short form of names in ermen or irmin, 'whole, entire, universal'. Grace is Latin gratia, favor and thanks, and in Christian theology the unearned favor of God — which is the sense the Reformation-era families had in mind when they made it a name. Both halves are settled and the compound adds nothing lexical. The pairing is devotional in effect rather than in construction.

The Loreli test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Emmagrace's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Loreli climbed just as high around 1952, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Loreli's path sketches the road Emmagrace is walking now.
Emmagrace sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
