The story of Demetris
One Demetrius built the largest machine anybody had ever seen. Nicknamed the Besieger, he came at Rhodes with a siege tower nine stories high, plated in iron, moved on eight wheels by a crew of thousands — and failed to take the city, which sold the abandoned machine for scrap and used the money to build the Colossus. The other Demetrius is a soldier and martyr who became the patron of Thessaloniki, and whose feast in late October marked the end of the agricultural year across the Balkans: the day shepherds came down from the hills, contracts ended, rents fell due. A name from a grain goddess, keeping the farming calendar under a saint's name for another thousand years.

Demetris's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Juanita climbed just as high around 1931, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Juanita's path sketches the road Demetris is walking now.
