The story of Demetre
Demetrius earned the nickname Poliorcetes, the Besieger, and the Rhodes campaign of 305 BC is why. His main machine was the Helepolis, a nine-story armored tower on eight wheels, worked by several thousand men, with catapults on the lower floors. It did not take the city. When he withdrew he left the equipment, and the Rhodians melted and sold it to fund a statue of their sun god at the harbor — one of the seven wonders, standing for about fifty-four years before an earthquake brought it down. The wreckage lay where it fell for eight centuries because an oracle advised against putting it back up.

The Richy test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Demetre's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Richy climbed just as high around 1962, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Richy's path sketches the road Demetre is walking now.
Demetre sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled Greek origin traceable to a major deity and a documented royal bearer.
- The same spelling in French and Georgian.
- Three short forms, one of which serves either child.
- Demetrius, Dimitri and Demetri are all commoner in America and all close.
- The final e is silent in English and sounded in Georgian, so two sayings are in use.
- The very few girls given this spelling will be read as boys on every form.
