Dayonna
Feminine
The English week is the last place the old Germanic gods are still named out loud. Tuesday is Tiw's day, Wednesday is Woden's, Thursday is Thor's, Friday is Frig's. Christianity replaced almost everything else and left the calendar alone, so an English speaker invokes four heathen gods a week without noticing.

The story of Dayonna
Day is one of the oldest words in English — Old English daeg, unchanged in meaning for fifteen hundred years — and the seven day-names built on it are a fossil record of what people believed before they were Christian. The Romans named the days after planets; the Germanic peoples translated the planets into their own gods, matching Mars to Tiw, Mercury to Woden, Jupiter to Thor, Venus to Frig; and English kept the translation while the Romance languages kept the Latin. Sunday, Monday and Saturday were left alone. None of this has anything to do with the name, which was built for its sound. It is simply what the word is carrying underneath.

The Tinia test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dayonna's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tinia climbed just as high around 1962, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tinia's path sketches the road Dayonna is walking now.
Dayonna sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Every sound in it is ordinary English, so it needs no teaching.
- Three short forms, two of which stand alone as names.
- The stress pattern is regular and strangers usually place it correctly.
- There is no meaning behind the compound, which is worth settling before a child asks.
- Dayana, Deyonna and Dayonna are all in use, so the spelling will need giving.
- It belongs to a narrow band of years and dates the bearer to them.
