Dajon joins the Da- prefix to Jon, and Jon is John — one of the most-used names in the history of the world. That gives the compound an unusual property for a modern coinage: the back half is not merely a syllable but a complete name with three thousand years behind it. Its peak is 1999.

Our story of Dajon
It is worth counting how many times John appears in this pool alone. Jeanie, Iana, Ioanna, Jovanna, Jania, Yaneth, Jac, Jeanna, Tayshawn, Deshon, Marshaun, Dreshawn, Dajon — every one of them descends from the same Hebrew sentence, arriving through Greek, Latin, French, Irish, Slavic, Romanian and American respelling. No other name in the world has done this. The reason is a combination of the Baptist, the Evangelist and sheer momentum: once a name is the most common in a country, every diminutive, feminine form, patronymic surname and foreign borrowing of it also enters circulation, and each of those generates its own descendants. Three thousand years later a prefix invented in twentieth-century Louisiana attaches to it and the chain continues. Dajon is the newest link in the longest chain in European naming.
Meaningscholars disagree
God is gracious, in the Jon element
Jon is a spelling of John, from Latin Iohannes, Greek Ioannes and Hebrew Yohanan — 'Yahweh is gracious'. That half is documented at every step. The Da- prefix comes from French and Louisiana Creole surnames where de- means 'of', and detached in twentieth-century American naming to become a free-standing element with no lexical content. So the meaning belongs entirely to the second half, and whether the family intended John cannot be shown.

The Thurmon test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dajon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Thurmon climbed just as high around 1930, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Thurmon's path sketches the road Dajon is walking now.
Dajon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
