Origin, sound and short forms
Our story of Coralee
Ours, offered as ours. The Greeks often avoided saying Persephone's name outright and called her simply Kore, the girl — a euphemism for a goddess associated with death. The word also names a whole class of archaic Greek statues: the korai, standing draped girls from the sixth century, found buried on the Acropolis after the Persians wrecked them. So the word behind Cora is both a goddess's alias and a category of sculpture.

maiden
Cora is generally from Greek kore, a girl or maiden, used as a title of Persephone. It may alternatively be a modern short form of Cordelia or Corinne. The -lee ending is a decorative American addition.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
