The story of Constantine
Constantine I legalized Christianity in 313, presided over the Council of Nicaea, and refounded Byzantium as Constantinople in 330 — a city that carried his name until 1930. Eleven Byzantine emperors followed, and the last died on the walls in 1453. The name is standard in Greek and Eastern European use and is in current American use.
Meaning
constant, steadfast
From the Latin constans, 'standing firm' or 'steadfast' — con-, 'together', and stare, 'to stand'. Constantinus is its adjectival form. The English words constant and constancy share the root. The meaning is transparent and undisputed.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Hayward test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Constantine's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Hayward climbed just as high around 1903, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Hayward's path sketches the road Constantine is walking now.
Constantine sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
