Chazz
Masculine · “free man”
Chazz is overwhelmingly a boys’ name — 1,321 boys against 29 girls since 1880.
English almost never doubles a z. Buzz, fuzz, jazz, fizz, razz, whizz — that is close to the whole list, and every one of them is recent and most of them imitate a sound. A doubled z is a reliable sign that a word was made up rather than inherited.

The story of Chazz
The z is worth pausing on because it is doing something specific. Chas was the standard written abbreviation of Charles for centuries, appearing on signatures and shopfronts, and it is said Chaz. Writing the sound rather than the abbreviation gives Chaz; doubling it follows the pattern of the small class of English words that end in a doubled z, all of which are informal and most of which are onomatopoeic. Jazz is the most consequential of them and has one of the most argued-over etymologies in the language: it appears first around 1912 in American baseball writing meaning energy or spirit, and only later attaches to music.
Meaning
free man
A clipped form of Charles, from Germanic karl, a man and specifically a free man rather than a serf. The z and its doubling are modern American spelling choices for the s sound at the end of Chas, the old written abbreviation of Charles.
