Our story of Chasen
Ours, offered as ours. There is a genuinely interesting Hebrew neighbor: chazzan is the cantor who leads the singing in a synagogue, a role with its own long training and repertoire, and the word is said close enough to Chasen to be noticed. The English chase comes from Norman French hunting vocabulary instead. Two entirely separate words, one modern American spelling, and the compound itself has no documented ancestry.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No source is established for the compound. Chase is documented: from Old French chacier, to hunt, from a Latin verb meaning to catch. The -en ending is a modern American suffix. A separate Hebrew chazan, a cantor, has been offered without support.

The Marquette test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Chasen's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Marquette climbed just as high around 1977, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Marquette's path sketches the road Chasen is walking now.
Chasen sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
