The story of Cameren
The Highland Camerons were one of the larger clans of Lochaber and their chief is Cameron of Lochiel. In 1745 the man holding that title went to meet Charles Edward Stuart intending to advise him to go home, and came away committed; contemporaries said afterwards that without Lochiel the other clans would not have come out and the rising would never have started. He was wounded at Culloden and died in exile. The Lowland family is much quieter and much older in the records of Fife. Modern American respellings — Cameren, Camren, Camryn, Kamryn — descend from the surname without distinguishing which family, and the -en ending here carries no information at all.

crooked nose, or crooked bay
The Highland name is Gaelic cam sron, crooked nose — a physical nickname, which clan names often are. The Lowland name is from a place, probably camas ruadh, the red or crooked bay. Both readings are standard and they belong to different families.

The Maximino test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Cameren's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Maximino climbed just as high around 1978, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Maximino's path sketches the road Cameren is walking now.
Cameren sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
