Where it comes from

Our story of Brylie

Ours, offered as ours. Brylie belongs to a family that has grown enormously since about 2005 — Brylee, Brynlee, Braylee, Bailee, Kinlee — all built on the same pattern of a short opening and a -lee ending, and all overwhelmingly for girls. What is striking is how fast the pattern spread and how completely it stayed on one side: the -lee ending marks a girls' name now almost without exception, which is a rule the tradition made in about a decade.

Meaningnot established

Not established

No source language is established. The Bry- opening comes from Bryan or Bryce, and the -lie ending is a respelling of -ley or -leigh, from Old English leah, a clearing. Neither is documented as the source of this compound.
