Brodee is overwhelmingly a boys’ name — 727 boys against 15 girls since 1880.
The Brodies claim one of the oldest land charters in Scotland, and they cannot produce it: the family papers were burned in 1645 when Lord Lewis Gordon sacked Brodie Castle. What survives is the name and the story of the fire.

The story of Brodee
Clan Brodie held land in Moray from at least the twelfth century, and the destruction of its charters in 1645 is one of the better-documented losses in Scottish record-keeping; the claim to an ancient charter from Malcolm IV cannot now be tested. The surname reached America and became a boy's given name in the 1990s, helped by the -y ending's currency and by the br- opening's dominance in that decade. Respellings followed: Brodie, Brody, Brodi, Brodee. The doubled e is the most strongly marked of them and the rarest; its best year in United States records is 2010.

Not established
Brodie is a place in Moray and the name of a Scottish clan; its derivation is not settled, with a Pictish or Gaelic element meaning a ditch or a muddy place among the proposals. A separate Irish surname, O Bruadair, from a personal name possibly connected to a word for a dream, also anglicizes as Brody. The -ee ending of this spelling is a modern American addition.

The Fredderick test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Brodee's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Fredderick climbed just as high around 1953, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Fredderick's path sketches the road Brodee is walking now.
Brodee sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
