The story of Brienne
The counts of Brienne were minor nobility from a small place who married and fought their way to a remarkable set of titles. John of Brienne became King of Jerusalem in 1210 through marriage, went on crusade, and ended his life as Latin Emperor of Constantinople; another of the family became Duke of Athens. All of it out of a village in Champagne. Five centuries later the village housed a royal military academy, and its most famous pupil arrived from Corsica speaking almost no French. As a given name Brienne is American and recent, built either on the place or on the Irish Brian with a French ending, and the record does not distinguish.

Not established
If the name is the French place Brienne, its own origin is not settled. If it is a feminine built on Brian, that name has no agreed meaning either. Either way the root is unknown, and the -enne ending is the French feminine, which adds grammar and no sense.

The Tammera test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Brienne's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tammera climbed just as high around 1963, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tammera's path sketches the road Brienne is walking now.
Brienne sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
