The story of Breezy
Trade-wind vocabulary came into English from sailors, and it kept its precision for a century or two before drifting. Briza was the north-easterly, the reliable one that carried ships west, and English took it as brize and then breeze with exactly that meaning. By the eighteenth century it had loosened to mean a gentle wind of any direction, and by the nineteenth the adjective had loosened further to mean a manner rather than weather. Names built from adjectives are unusual — English much prefers nouns — and the small set that exists is recognizable at once: Breezy, Sunny, Merry, Bonnie, Lucky. Every one of them describes a way of being rather than a thing.
Meaning
of the breeze
From the English adjective breezy, from breeze, borrowed from Old Spanish briza, the north-east wind. The narrowing to a specific wind and the later widening to any light one are both documented. As a name it is the adjective taken whole, which is a rarer move than taking a noun.

The Dyanna test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Breezy's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Dyanna climbed just as high around 1948, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Dyanna's path sketches the road Breezy is walking now.

The trade-off
- A documented meaning that can be checked in an ordinary dictionary.
- Two syllables that everyone can say and spell after hearing them once.
- Bree works as a short form and is a full name in its own right.
- It is an English adjective describing a temperament, which is a claim the child has to live beside.
- It reads as a nickname, and people will assume it is one and ask for the real name.
- Breezy is also used casually to mean easy or unserious, which cuts both ways.
