Brayla
Feminine
Brayla is a boys' name front given the plainest feminine ending English has. Bray- belonged to Brayden, one of the biggest boys' names of the 2000s; add an -a and the whole thing reads as a girls' name without any other change. That single-letter operation is one of the oldest tricks in European naming and one of the most used in modern America. Brayla's peak is 2017.

Our story of Brayla
The final -a has marked feminine names in the Indo-European languages for something like four thousand years. Latin had it, Greek had it, Sanskrit had it, and every Romance and Slavic language inherited it: Paulus and Paula, Iulius and Iulia, Aleksandr and Aleksandra. English lost most of its grammatical gender in the medieval period but kept the -a as a naming signal, and it still works — attach it to almost any masculine name and English speakers will read the result as female without being told. That is how Brayla was made. Bray- came from Brayden, the ending came from four millennia of grammar, and the join required no explanation from anybody. What is worth noticing is that this is the same operation that produced Julia, Paula and Michaela; the only difference is that the front element here has no meaning to carry across.

Not established
No documented source. Brayden itself has none — it appears in American records only from the 1980s, and the Irish surname derivations offered for it are unsupported. Bray- as a detached front carries nothing, and the -a ending is a grammatical marker rather than a word. So the honest description is a construction: a fashionable front plus a feminine terminal, both of which can be described precisely even though neither means anything.

The Samra test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Brayla's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Samra climbed just as high around 1953, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Samra's path sketches the road Brayla is walking now.
Brayla sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
