The story of Arnaldo
The animal elements are one of the most consistent features of old Germanic naming and they were not decorative: a name was a wish about what would attend a child, and the eagle, the wolf, the bear and the raven were the animals worth having. Arn produced Arnold, Arnulf, Arne and the Scandinavian Arnbjorn, and it survives as an ordinary English word in erne, which birdwatchers still use. Wolf gave Wolfgang, Rudolf, Randolph and Adolf; bear gave Bernard and Bjorn; raven gave Bertram and Guntram. The system was inherited from a shared Germanic stock and every language in the family used the same short list.

The Lino test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Arnaldo's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lino climbed just as high around 1966, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lino's path sketches the road Arnaldo is walking now.
Arnaldo sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled Germanic meaning with both elements traceable, one into modern English.
- The same spelling in Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
- Three short forms, two of which are full names in their own right.
- Arnold is the English form and much commoner here, so the two will be confused.
- It is strongly represented among older generations in Italy and Latin America.
- Three syllables and an unfamiliar shape means more repeating than most names need.
