Our story of Aramis
Ours, offered as ours. Dumas was working from a real memoir of a real musketeer, and the three companions he gave d'Artagnan carry names taken from villages and hamlets around the Béarn — Athos, Porthos and Aramis are places you can still drive through. That is an unusually solid foundation for fictional names. The novel of 1844 then carried them worldwide, and Aramis has been given as a name ever since, in French, Spanish and American records alike.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No meaning attaches to the personal name. Dumas took Aramis, like Athos and Porthos, from place names in the Béarn region of south-western France, following a seventeenth-century memoir he was working from. The place names' own derivations are Basque or Gascon and not established.

The Yul test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Aramis's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Yul climbed just as high around 1960, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Yul's path sketches the road Aramis is walking now.
Aramis sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
