The story of Amore
Latin amor gave every Romance language its word for love: Italian amore, Spanish and Portuguese amor, French amour. Italian uses amore as an ordinary term of endearment, said to a child or a partner without any ceremony at all, which is part of what the name carries. As a given name it is recent and mostly American, belonging with Amour, Amora and Amor in a small group of borrowed love-words used as names, and it is given to daughters far more often than sons.
Meaning
love
Italian amore, from Latin amor, from amare, 'to love'. The reading is exact and undisputed. Amor was also the Roman god of love, the counterpart of the Greek Eros, and the reversal of his name into Roma was treated in antiquity as a secret name of the city — a piece of learned play that turns up in Latin poetry and in medieval commentary alike.

The Nekisha test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Amore's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Nekisha climbed just as high around 1978, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Nekisha's path sketches the road Amore is walking now.
Amore sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The meaning needs no explaining anywhere in the Western world.
- Five letters and a clean Latin origin rather than a modern coinage.
- Recognized across Italian, Spanish, French and English at once.
- It is the word for love applied to a person, which is a large thing to say on their behalf.
- The final e is fully sounded in Italian and silent in most American speech, so the name shifts.
- Amore, Amora, Amour and Amor all circulate and belong to different languages.
