The story of Amen
Amen is one of the very few words to enter almost every language on earth without translation, carried by the liturgies of three religions. Its root ties faith to firmness — to believe is to find something solid. The name appears in American records for both sexes, and is separately an Ethiopian and Eritrean name. It is in current use.
Meaning
so be it; truly
From the Hebrew amen, from the root '-m-n, 'to be firm, reliable, trustworthy'. The same root gives emunah, 'faith', and the verb he'emin, 'to believe'. The word passed unchanged into Greek, Latin, Arabic and hundreds of other languages. The Egyptian god Amun is unrelated.

About 1 boy in 13,139 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 23,398 for Amen itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Devron test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Amen's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Devron climbed just as high around 1990, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Devron's path sketches the road Amen is walking now.
Amen sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- That faith and firmness share a root is a first-rate piece of Hebrew.
- It is one of the few words carried untranslated into almost every language.
- Two clean syllables with no pronunciation risk.
- It is a liturgical word rather than a traditional given name in most traditions.
- The stress placement splits between three readings.
- The Egyptian god Amun is often assumed to be connected and is not.
