Alexander of Macedon took the name across Asia, and it stayed behind him — Iskandar in Persian and Arabic, Sikandar in Urdu, Eskender in Amharic. It has been one of the most consistently used names in Europe since. American use has been very heavy since the 1990s, and the respellings followed: Alexzander, Alekzander, Alexsander and Alexzandar all appear in the 2000s.
