Aide
Feminine · “Greek "modest”
One accent is the whole name. Spanish Aidé is said ah-ee-DEH, with the mark telling the reader where the stress falls and that the e is a separate syllable — and American forms strip accents, so the name arrives as aide, an English word meaning an assistant.

The story of Aide
Accent stripping is a routine feature of American record systems, which were built for a limited character set and have only partly caught up. For most names the loss is cosmetic — José read as Jose is still recognizable. For a few it is destructive, and Aidé is one: without the mark, Spanish reading rules put the stress on the first syllable and produce a different word, and English readers see an ordinary noun. The same problem affects Ángel, Jesús and René, where the accent carries the stress, and it is far worse for names from languages with heavier diacritic loads. Aide peaks in the American figures in 1996.

Greek "modest, reverent"
Aidé is the Spanish form of Haidee, which Byron used in Don Juan in 1819 for a Greek girl, apparently from Greek aidoios, modest or reverent. The derivation is not fully settled. In Spanish the accent is essential: Aidé has final stress and three syllables, while the unaccented Aide would be read as two. American records drop accents as a matter of course.

The Bobbijo test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Aide's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Bobbijo climbed just as high around 1975, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Bobbijo's path sketches the road Aide is walking now.
Aide sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
