Ahmani
Feminine
Ahmani is given to both — 533 girls and 102 boys since 1880. See other names given to both
Ahmani inserts an h into the middle of a name that does not need one, and that is a specific and much-used American device. The h is silent, it changes nothing audible, and it does two visible things: it breaks the word into two clear parts and it makes the name look like it came from somewhere. Ahmani's peak is 2009.

Our story of Ahmani
A silent medial h is one of the cheapest and most effective moves available in modern English naming, and it works because English readers have been trained by transliteration. In names taken from Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu and Hindi, a medial or final h regularly stands for a real consonant that English lacks — Ahmad, Fatimah, Sarah, Mahdi — and English speakers have learned to read that h as a signal of foreign origin even though they never pronounce it. Once that association exists, it can be borrowed. Insert an h into an American-made name and the name acquires, at no phonetic cost, the appearance of having a source. Ahmani does exactly that to Amani. The effect is real, the signal is legible, and the etymology it points to does not exist — which is worth saying plainly, because the alternative is a page that quietly repeats a Swahili gloss the name has no claim to.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No documented source. The name sits in the -mani family with Imani, 'faith', and Amani, 'peace', both genuine Swahili words, and Damani, which is not. Ahmani is not attested in Swahili or in Arabic, though the inserted h makes it resemble Arabic transliterations such as Ahmad and Ahmed, where the h represents a real consonant. Here it does not. The construction is describable and the meaning is not.

Pronouncing Ahmani
ah-MAH-nee
Three syllables, stress in the middle, with the h silent. Some speakers give the h a light breath, ah-h-MAH-nee, treating it as an Arabic transliteration; that reading is heard but is not the usual one.

The Maranatha test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ahmani's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Maranatha climbed just as high around 1978, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Maranatha's path sketches the road Ahmani is walking now.
Ahmani sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
