The story of Aesha
The Nation of Islam's transition after 1975, under Warith Deen Muhammad, moved a very large American community toward orthodox Sunni practice, and one of the visible effects was on names. Adult converts took Arabic names, and children born in those years were given them, so Aisha, Rashida, Jamila, Khalil and Malik all show sharp rises in 1976 and 1977 that have nothing to do with immigration. A film released in the same window, telling the story of the Prophet's life, added visibility. The name itself is among the most significant in Islamic history: Aisha bint Abu Bakr is the source of more than two thousand hadith, which makes her one of the principal transmitters of the tradition and a jurist in her own right.

The Joaquina test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Aesha's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Joaquina climbed just as high around 1926, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Joaquina's path sketches the road Aesha is walking now.
Aesha sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
