The story of Adrien
Hadria was a port on the Adriatic coast, silted up now and several miles inland, and it was significant enough in the Etruscan and early Roman period to name the sea. Families from there took the name Hadrianus, and one of them produced the emperor who ruled from 117 to 138, consolidated the empire's borders and built the wall across northern Britain that still carries his name. The name passed into Christian use through several popes, including the only English one, Adrian IV, elected in 1154. French produced Adrien and Adrienne, and English Adrian and Adrienne, and American records show the French masculine spelling being given to girls, which is the sort of thing that happens when a name arrives by sight rather than by ear.

Adrien's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Carlean climbed just as high around 1940, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Carlean's path sketches the road Adrien is walking now.
Adrien sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
