The story of Adalberto
Vojtech, a Bohemian nobleman who took Adalbert as his baptismal name after his confirming bishop, became bishop of Prague, quarreled repeatedly with his flock, and left to preach to the pagan Prussians on the Baltic; they killed him in 997. Boleslaw the Brave of Poland is said to have ransomed his body for its weight in gold, and the shrine at Gniezno made him one of the founding saints of Polish Christianity. The name spread across Catholic Europe. Adalberto reached United States records with Mexican, Puerto Rican and Italian families and had its best year in 1981.

From Germanic adal, noble, and beraht, bright or renowned. The second element means famous rather than shining, as in Albert, Robert and Lambert. Adalbert is the fuller Germanic form; Albert is its contraction, and the two are the same name. Adalberto is the Spanish, Portuguese and Italian form.

Line the two peaks up, and Hansel's path sketches the road Adalberto is walking now.
