Before the names

These Nordic names are all in genuine US use, ranked as of the latest records.

This page reads the whole Nordic map at once — Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish names alongside the pan-Scandinavian classics — because the five traditions share their favorites freely, and American records file them all together anyway.

Part of the pool is already American mainstream with nobody checking the passport: Emma, Sofia, Oliver, Elias and Leo top charts in Scandinavia and in the US alike. The distinctly Nordic layer is where this list earns its keep — Axel at #79 leads it, with Freya, Otto, Soren, Astrid and Thea all in confident use.

The mythology shelf is real and growing: Odin charts at #501, Magnus and Leif hold steady, and Freya — first recorded in American data only in 1931 — waited ninety years for her US moment. Even the spelling tells a story: anglicized Freya sits at #176 while the Nordic Freyja charts nearly six hundred places behind.

The deep end keeps its accent — Bjorn, Henrik, Ingrid, Linnea, Rune, Lars — names in genuine but quiet American use, most far below their old-country standing. For a family with roots up north, that is the shelf where the rare finds live, and the rank beside each name says exactly how rare.
