Flower names in full bloom

Flower names are the biggest single stream of the nature-name revival — five of them sit inside the current girls' top-100 alone.
This guide has 23 names: 23 girl names and 0 boy names. A curated set of flower words matched against the latest records; only names in real use appear. Built from US Social Security birth records through 2025. Tap + beside any name to keep it on your shortlist as you read.
Before the names
From evergreen Lily to fast-blooming Magnolia and Dahlia, every flower below appears in real birth records, with its live rank.
The records show two great flower ages, not one. The first was Victorian: Daisy's best-ever year was 1880, Rose reached #14 in 1911, and even Fern made the top-160 in 1916. The second came in the 1970s, when Heather climbed to #3 and Holly to #48 — and it is the Victorian layer, not the seventies one, that today's revival is bringing back.
That split is the most useful thing on this page. Daisy and Fern are marked comebacks from the old layer, while Violet and Iris have gone further still — both now stand at the highest ranks the records have ever given them. Heather meanwhile has slipped to #1261 and Holly to #416, resting exactly where the hundred-year cycle predicts. Same garden, opposite ends of the wave.
Once the classics grew crowded, the frontier moved outward: Magnolia, Dahlia, Azalea and Poppy all chart today inside the top-300, and Marigold, Zinnia and Lavender have entered genuine use behind them. The bouquet keeps widening precisely because its front-runners became popular.
One structural note: this reads as a girls' list because the records make it one — the charting flower names all sit on the girls' side. For greenery that does chart for boys (Rowan, Cedar, Reed), the nature-names guide covers the whole landscape.
