The story of Zacharias
Zechariah is a prophet with a book of his own and also, in the New Testament, the father of John the Baptist, struck silent until the child is named. Greek gave Zacharias and Latin carried it west. It was well used in early modern England and Germany and reaches American records from both; the -ias ending marks it as the older and more formal of the English forms.
Meaning
the Lord has remembered
From Hebrew zakhar, to remember, with a form of the divine name; in biblical usage God remembering someone means doing something about them, so the name is a claim about intervention rather than about memory.

The Audra test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Zacharias's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Audra climbed just as high around 1915, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Audra's path sketches the road Zacharias is walking now.
