The story of Xavi
Francis Xavier co-founded the Jesuits with Ignatius of Loyola and carried the mission to India, Malacca and Japan before dying off the Chinese coast in 1552; his surname became a given name across the Catholic world. Catalan made Xavi as the everyday short form, and it reached wide visibility through a Barcelona footballer. It appears in American records from the 2000s.
Meaning
the new house
From the Basque etxeberria, 'the new house', which gave the place name Xabier in Navarre. Francis Xavier took his surname from the castle of his birth. The Basque elements are ordinary and the reading is documented; the name is a place before it is anything else.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Xavi's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Auston climbed just as high around 1995, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Auston's path sketches the road Xavi is walking now.
