The story of Vlasta
The legend is called the Maidens' War, and it is told in the oldest Czech chronicles. After the death of a ruling woman, her followers refuse to accept a man in her place, withdraw, build a fortress and fight the men of the country for years — with Vlasta as their commander. The war ends badly for them, as such stories always do when they are written down by the other side, and the chronicler's tone is entirely hostile. What survives anyway is the shape of the thing: an early Czech account of women who armed themselves and held ground, preserved by a man who disapproved and told it all the same.
