The story of Victorya
Victoria Woodhull opened a Wall Street brokerage with her sister, published a newspaper and, a few years after the Civil War, became the first woman to run for president, on a ticket of her own making. The queen who gave the name its popularity also gave it to places: the explorer John Hanning Speke named the vast lake he reached in East Africa after her and declared it the source of the Nile. His rival Richard Burton disputed it, and Speke died of a shooting accident the day before they were to debate. Victorya writes the name with a y.

Fashion outlook
Victorya sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Its meaning, victory, is clear and strong.
- Tori and Vicky are ready short forms.
- It connects to a long and famous name while looking distinctive.
- People will write Victoria, and the y will need spelling out.
- The y spelling resembles the Russian transliteration, so some may assume a Russian background.
