The story of Vedika
The vedi is the constructed altar at the center of Vedic ritual, built to precise measurements set out in the Shulba Sutras — texts that contain some of the earliest geometry in the world, developed because the altars had to be exactly right. Vedika is the diminutive and also names a railing or terrace in temple architecture. The name is modern and well used across India.
Meaning
altar, raised platform
From Sanskrit vedi, a sacrificial altar, with a diminutive; the root vid means to know and gives Veda. Whether the altar and the knowledge share the root directly is argued, but both are ancient.

The Ellise test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Vedika's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Ellise climbed just as high around 2004, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Ellise's path sketches the road Vedika is walking now.
Vedika sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled meaning with a genuinely remarkable link to early geometry.
- Veda is a complete short form in its own right.
- Six letters and three syllables, manageable to write.
- It names a ritual object, which is a specific thing to be called.
- Vedika, Vedanti and Vedanshi are all in use and get confused.
- It needs explaining outside Indian communities every time.
