The story of Tyra
Týr binds the wolf Fenrir by placing his hand in its jaws as a pledge, and loses the hand when the gods refuse to release it — the clearest act of deliberate sacrifice in Norse myth. His name survives in Tuesday. Tyra and Thyra were Scandinavian names carried to America by emigration, and Tyra rose sharply in the 1990s.

of Týr, the god
Usually read as a feminine of Týr, the Norse war god whose name derives from the Proto-Indo-European word for 'god' and is a cousin of Zeus. A second route reads the Danish Thyra as an entirely separate name of unrecovered origin. Both are in circulation.

The James test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Tyra's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: James climbed just as high around 1928, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and James's path sketches the road Tyra is walking now.
Tyra sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
