Tymon
Masculine · “honor”
Tymon is the Polish form of the Greek Timon, from timē, honor, and Polish families shorten it to Tymek. The spelling carries a Polish vowel English lacks: the y is close to the i of bit, said further back in the mouth, so the Polish name does not start like time.

The story of Tymon
Polish uses y as a vowel of its own, heard in the everyday words my, we, and ty, you; it never makes the long i of time, which puts the Polish Tymon closer to TIH-mon. The Greek original has a famous bearer who is not a flattering one: Timon of Athens, a real citizen of the fifth century BC whose hatred of his fellow men was already a joke in Aristophanes, was recorded by Plutarch, and became Shakespeare's Timon of Athens. In the United States the name can also be heard as a Ty- name alongside Tyrone and Tyson, and the record does not say which road each American Tymon came by.
Meaning
honor
From Greek Timon, built on timē, honor or esteem. The same root begins Timothy, Tymoteusz in Polish, which is why Tymek serves both names.

Fashion outlook
Tymon sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

- The Greek Timon is remembered mostly as a misanthrope; it is a literary footnote rather than an everyday association, though readers of Shakespeare will know it.
- Outside Polish-speaking families almost everyone will say the vowel the English way, TIE.
