The story of Truth
Treowth meant good faith, and the marriage phrase about plighting one's troth preserves that older sense exactly. The modern meaning grew out of it — what is true is what holds. Puritan naming took a set of virtue words as names in the seventeenth century, and Truth belongs to that family; the reformer born Isabella Baumfree chose it as a surname in 1843, which is its best-known American use.
Meaning
faithfulness; what is so
From Old English treowth, built on treowe, faithful or loyal — the same root as trust and true. The original sense is fidelity to a promise, and the sense of correspondence with fact developed later.

The Deneisha test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Truth's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Deneisha climbed just as high around 1994, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Deneisha's path sketches the road Truth is walking now.
Truth sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

Where Truth is headed
Truth should hold steady through 2030 — the curve is flat, and flat curves are the most predictable kind. Its history is short or jumpy, though, so read this as a sketch rather than a promise.

The trade-off
- An ordinary English word, so nobody has to be taught to say or spell it.
- Tru and True are both usable short forms in current use.
- The older sense of the word — faithfulness — is genuinely worth knowing.
- It is an abstract noun rather than a name, and strangers will remark on it.
- The person most associated with it chose it for herself as an adult, which is different.
- A virtue name sets an expectation the child did not choose.
Nobody names a baby alone.
