Trevan
Masculine
Tre- is the most common element in Cornish place names, so common that an old rhyme says you will know a Cornishman by Tre, Pol and Pen. It means a farmstead or a settlement, and it opens hundreds of names on that peninsula. Trevan lands squarely on that pattern — which is a coincidence, since the American name was almost certainly built from other parts entirely.

The story of Trevan
Cornwall's naming survives in its place names more than anywhere else, and tre is its signature — Trelawny, Tregonning, Trevose, Trewin, hundreds of them, each one a farm named for a person or a feature. Some became surnames and traveled. Meanwhile, and quite separately, American naming built a large family on the same opening syllable, borrowing it from Trevor and Travis rather than from Cornish. Trevan sits where the two meet: a name that looks like it came off a Cornish map and in fact came out of an American living room. Both facts are worth having.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The American name has no documented derivation; it was assembled from a familiar front syllable and a familiar ending in the second half of the twentieth century. The Cornish resemblance is real but almost certainly accidental: in Cornish, tre is a homestead and the element after it names whose or what kind, and there is no evidence that any American family had that in mind.
Pronouncing Trevan
TREV-un
Two syllables, stress on the first, the second reduced. Some families put the weight at the back, giving truh-VAN; both are current, and the spelling gives no instruction.

The Talbot test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Trevan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Talbot climbed just as high around 1942, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Talbot's path sketches the road Trevan is walking now.
Trevan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Trev is available immediately and is already familiar from Trevor.
- Six letters, two syllables, and completely transparent to an English reader.
- It happens to land on a real Celtic naming pattern, which gives a child something genuine to say.
- Trevon, Trevin and Trevan all compete, and every one of them will be written on something official.
- The stress is unfixed, so a child will hear their own name two ways.
- There is no documented meaning, and the Cornish connection is a resemblance rather than an ancestry.
