The story of Tasha
Natalia was a fourth-century martyr's name that took root particularly deeply in Russia, where nicknaming is systematic: Natalia gives Natasha as regularly as Aleksandr gives Sasha. English readers met Natasha in nineteenth-century Russian novels and English-speaking families began using it in the twentieth. Tasha is the further clipping, treated as a name in its own right in America from the 1960s and peaking in the early 1980s.
Meaning
birthday, of the Lord's birth
Through Natalia, from the Latin natalis dies, 'birthday', which in Christian Latin meant specifically the birth of Christ and so Christmas. Natalia was given to children born at that season, and the word survives in the Italian Natale and the French Noël.

Tasha sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
