The story of Tania
Saint Tatiana was a third-century Roman martyr venerated especially in the Orthodox east, and Tatiana became a great Russian name — the standard short form is Tanya or Tania. Pushkin's Eugene Onegin made his heroine Tatyana, which fixed the name in Russian culture. Western use spread through the twentieth century, and Tania peaked in America around 1970.
