Talina
Feminine · “born at Christmas”
Natalie, Noel, Natalia and the Italian Natale are all the same Latin phrase: dies natalis, the birthday. Not any birthday — the Lord's. A name from that family says which day the child arrived, which is about as literal as naming gets.

The story of Talina
Latin called Christmas dies natalis Domini, the birthday of the Lord, and shortened it to natalis, which is why Italian says Natale, French Noel, Catalan Nadal and Spanish Navidad — all of them the same word for birth. Children born on the day were given it, and the practice was old enough by the fourth century to have produced saints. The Hebrew road is quite separate: tal is dew, and Talia or Talya joins it to a form of the divine name. Talina sits where the two could meet. Clipping the front off a longer name and letting the remainder stand alone is an ordinary process in every European language, and it usually leaves no record of what was cut.

born at Christmas — or, in the other reading, dew
Two roads. If Talina is Natalia with the front clipped, the source is Latin natalis, of birth, in the phrase for Christmas Day. If it is built on Talia, the source is Hebrew tal, dew, with the divine name, giving dew of God. Both parent names are real and neither has been shown to be the source here.

The Janan test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Talina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Janan climbed just as high around 1949, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Janan's path sketches the road Talina is walking now.
Talina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Both possible parents are well documented and widely used names.
- Three short forms that sound quite different from each other.
- Three open syllables with no consonant cluster anywhere.
- It will be heard as a shortening of Natalina or Catalina and people will ask.
- Taleena, Talena and Thalina are all in use, so the spelling will be given often.
- The meaning depends on which parent name you claim, and the spelling does not say.
